Equine Coach Assembly - 7-8 October 2024

Bookings & information

*Strictly Limited Spaces**

We are delighted to announce a new F&I (Association of Fellows and Instructors) event "Equine Coach Assembly" and we are very excited to have master coaches Ferdi Eilberg & John Ledingham.

Day 1 is dressage orientated.
Day 2 is jump orientated.

This event is going to be a very different format to many CPD days, involving three different zones to visit during the mornings with each one having a different approach to sharing of information.

These days will be as interactive as possible.

With top presenters and F&I member Dr Russell MacKechnie-Guire from Centaur Biomechanics providing a great evidenced based research approach, focusing on dressage and show jumping on each appropriate day. Alongside that we have two master trainers Ferdi Eilberg and John Ledingham, for us to observe, evaluate and absorb their expertise and techniques. There will be more to these sessions than meets the eye, that’s all we are going to say for now.

We also have a section called 'Ready-Steady-Coach' (for those of you that can remember the cooking programme), hosted by Sam York FBHS. This will have a similar theme, bringing a little bit of fun into coaching but with lots of serious discussions and identifying of useful coaching strategies and approaches behind it.

Presenters:

Ferdi Eilberg FBHS:  came to England in 1980 having spent his early life in Germany serving an apprenticeship with Olympic Gold medallist Dr Reiner Klimke. He was the British Equestrian Federation’s World Class Performance Director of Coaching from 2002 to 2008, responsible for overseeing the training schedules of Britain’s top dressage riders as they prepare for major championships including Olympic and Paralympic Games. He was also dressage trainer to the British Three Day Event Team from 1981 to 1992 accompanying them to three Olympic Games. He has achieved major international success as a competitor on a number of horses - a European Silver Medallist Ferdi represented Great Britain at two European Championships in 1993 and 1995 and at the World Equestrian Games in 1994 and 1998. Based at his own training yard in Worcestershire since 1984, his home at Pink Green Farm is internationally recognised as one of the leading training establishments in the UK. Both his daughter Maria aged 39 and son Michael aged 36 are now riding successfully in international competition. Maria a team silver team medallist at the 2009 European Championship and at the 2010 World Equestrian Games in Kentucky on her father’s horse Two Sox and Michael a Team Silver and Bronze medallist in 2013, 2014 and 2015. Michael is also well known as the producer of World Young Horse Champion Farouche.

John Ledingham: a world renowned Show Jumping Trainer and Olympic level rider. Winner of the Hickstead Derby a remarkable three times. Represented Ireland on over 60 Nations Cup Teams.  John is the official coach for the British Showjumping World Class Pathway Training amongst many other coaching roles.

Sam York FBHS: a Fellow of the BHS, who also holds the UKCC level four status as well as completing a MSc in professional sports coaching. Sam is a BHS Lead Assessor, assessing at all levels and spends a great amount of her time travelling internationally as Technical Delegate for the International Group for Equestrian Qualifications (IGEQ).  Sam has also enjoyed a long and successful competitive background. Sam’s specialist interests are based around coach education and equestrian qualifications systems.

Dr Russell MacKechnie-Guire BHSI: holds a PhD in Equine Biomechanics.  Russell is based at Centaur Biomechanics, a company which he founded in 2006. He also holds his BHSI.  Russell has extensively researched the effect that tack (saddle, bridle and girth) and the rider has on equine well being and performance.

This event is open to any coaches registered with their relevant member body, for example, BHS, BD, BS, BE, Pony Club, RDA, Horsescotland, etc. You will be required to provide your membership number at the checkout.

Centre10 Autumn Training Camp (Centre10 members only) 15 October 2024

Bookings & information

These training camps are held for our Accredited / Advanced coaches twice a year (spring & autumn). The venue alternates between the midlands and the south west.

Different topics are covered at each camp. Last autumn we focused on neurodiversity in sport, and in the spring we covered "A Rider-Centric Approach to Coaching – Exploring the Skills & Methodologies for Success". Please find the details below.

"On this camp we will be exploring the skills and techniques required for a successful ‘rider-centric’ approach to coaching.

To achieve this we will be showcasing live mounted demonstrations that cover coaching strategies for riders across various levels. We're honoured to have Danny Anholt, Guy Reynolds, and Emma Fisher—coaches renowned for their diverse experiences from grassroots to European champions—leading live sessions that promise a blend of flatwork and jumping.

In particular, we want to explore how we can combine the technical and mental facets of training more skilfully and seamlessly.

With that in mind, Steffi and I will be on hand to role-model a collaborative approach – triangulating between coach and rider (where invited!) in our quest to accelerate and deepen the learning experience.

In addition we also want to use this opportunity to develop the quality of our own observation as coaches, building on our ability to observe the rider more skilfully from the inside out! "
